Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Changing player 255 color
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Navilin on 2004-12-21 at 13:08:59
Alright, I found this when I put my name aka Mr.t on a map in beacnons. I put fog of war on the beacons so the players could see the letters then disable vision at the location of the letters. Now when you build a unit or a unit is create from a trigger the color of those player 255 units change. Note you must build "men" not buildings and also the 255 units must be buildings or beacons.

Below I've added my map with this in it.
I'd also like some credit for this discovery if it turns out no one else knew this.

Wow, awesome, I like the style of your defense, and th color changing beacons, thats slick.

How did you do it?

You're right. Nice find. Creating a unit changes player 255's colour. Do you know of any other players that change colour as well?

I'm pretty sure SoftWareWolf used something like this in circulation defense.

EDIT: Nevermind.

I do not know of any other players with the same feature as of yet. Doing some tests.

After finishing those tests please upload a map to DLDB/Experimental maps

Does this work with player 255 units after given to players 1-8?
Cuase if it does, imma put both of my maps in hold and start making a backstabin map.

256-One color changes blue to diffrent colors
255-Changes each time unit is made
254-nothing
253-nothing
252-nothing
251-crash
250-crash

If you want to know which players crash, look at the supply list here: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=tuto...%20Max%20Supply

Note that I have done some more to it:

CODE

184 - Crash
185 - Crash
186 - Works, doesn't do  :censored:
187 - Works
188 - Works
189 - Works
190 - Works
191 - Works, crashes when you move out of sight from its units
192 - Works

194 - Works, crashes if you click with the mouse
195 - Works, crashes if you try quitting the game
196 - Works, crashes if you move away from its unit
197 - Works, crashes if you move away from its unit
198 - Works, crashes if you move away from its unit
199 - Works
200 - Works, crashes if you move away from its unit

--
Ones that crash later anyway will be marked as crash only

Hey ! I ever found a strange thing like this in one of my map !!! smile.gif
But I lost the map sad.gif(
i remember that colors changed very fast, and progressivly !
from red, blue, brown .... dont really remember, was about 8secs to reapeat the loop
i used it with pylon and with just a fog of war enabled at start on them...
dont remember what player i used to, or what color i used...
sad.gif
I don't think it changed when i buildt units (???)

Player 44 also changes color whenever a unit is created by any player, I think it cycle's through starcraft's palette.

Before releasing the first SF heimdal already made a map were when you build a supply depot the color of one player changes. Also its not really useful because it 9999999 things may make the effect be different. Its just one of the results of a buffer overflow.

When a unit is given to another player, the colour of the unit changes. Therefore you can not. Try using one of the AI scripts to switch computer to rescuable?

Post the map clokr.... I wana see if its the same. Im not sure what your talking about is because This only works with "men" when they are created through a trigger or built by a player. So I would like to see if there is a diffrence. Anyways So far I havent found one that works like player 255. I'll have to check out player 44 havent gotten that far yet.

P.S. just tested player 44 its even more interesting works with out lights off but doesnt change colors on minimap but it does when you look at it. God find a-friend!

Here's something:

When creating units, player 55's upgrades will change. Upgrades can even go down!

EDIT
What the hell? Well it appeared to...
Something weird about this player.

I dont even remember the map name. It was a lot of time ago. I just remember that there was a dark-blue beacon and when you built a supply depot some light blue points appeared on the beacon color.

As I say buffer overflows are dangerous and unpredictable. 10000 things may make the effect change. Also, it might change anything, color, upgrades, etc.

The "first" color of p255 in the minimap depends of how many units u got in the game when it starts, I'll maybe make a .gif of some colors of p255 for see if there is a loop.
I did 48 now, just see :
user posted image
I made this on Jungle tilseset (64*64 map).
() means that color is changing (brown and grey blue)
(o) means that color is changing (grey blue)
T means that color is transparent.

A while ago when I was trying to determine colors for players > 12 and color numbers > 11 we discovered that some colors on units change based on events in the map.

Clokr, I remembered it being start locations, not beacons.

In any case, it seemed like almost any event in the map could potentially change a color, especially when you see a certain graphic for the first time.
