Staredit Network -> Concepts -> "Perfect Slanted Water"-What can YOU make from it?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-12-23 at 02:24:52
If you didn't understand what I was getting at, there was an exparimental map called The Perfect Slanted Water submitted by krazydrunkking.

Now, I want to see what you people can make from this. It could be like a contest of some sort or something, but no prize, just for fun.

This is what I made from it:

Now let's see yours!

Ok guys, thats Hirt Dirt on the badlands terrain.

Water cannot be placed on the same "level" as high dirt, unless you use square terrain, which looks sloppy, this uses the floortrap doodad with observers at create a "water" effect, therefore allowing you to create water near and close to any surface in the end

noobs....

Navilin, how can the picture be fake? Do you have a brain?

Mine has no real concept change, it's the same thing... just an edited version of the original. What's so special about the original map is that it looks pretty cool and nobody actually thought of it before.

Whats this topic for??? Slayed terran.... Big deal. What's the use of Slayed terran....?????
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-12-23 at 10:58:03
Slanted*. And originally, I made this topic so others can use the original map and make another map like I did from it, then post what they made. But unfourtinately nobody censored.gif ing listens and the topics I make always censored.gif ing turn out differently then I expect.

Plus you can't make "slanted square" terrain without this trick.

I listen... Im sure i will use this somewhere...

PS: If you make bounds you can have a slanted terrain smile.gif

It's a really good effect. IT could be used in some map like... "sex on the beach" wink.gif

But i'm still thinking it's a total waste of units and sprite...
I'm pretty convinced that will be someone to improve this...
Since I'm really interested in Terraining, this is such a great effect... good work...

Oh and yea... You could remove the observer and let it like this...

I will probably send something later...

Whats the point? just use the original Isometric terran... and I opened your map and... censored.gif the is a lot of complicated stuff. Takes Too much time just for that... No use.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-12-23 at 16:17:32
It is perfect slanted terrain. Using isometrical terrain has all the little cliffs and imperfect dirt sides and stuff. This just does it really cleanly and it looks cool. That's the point of it.

I'll send something in when I get the time to do one, probably tnight or tomorrow. I like the idea of making a thread to expand on the idea of this, biggrin.gif

Look everyone, ChaosRyder thinks a half an hour is too much time! THE WORLD HAS COME TO AN END! :0

It definitely can be improved. The units weren't perfectly placed for the best effect either.

Look dude I dont see how that would change the mini map though. Which is that the picture is of correct?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-12-23 at 16:56:08
No, the picture is from the in-game look. Can't you see part of the terran controll panal thing at the bottom?

nice wave effect. itd be better if someone thought of a way to make the sprite or water go in and out.

I guess I'll be the first one to actually post what they made from the 'Perfect Slanted Water' map.

Did I mention I've played a teeeeeeeeeeeeeensy bit too many defence maps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DarkDeath19 on 2004-12-26 at 18:07:00
Couldn't you just use a mapping program and just draw them, then scan them into your computer?

I dont really understand the topic so if that post above is off topic, just ignore it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2004-12-27 at 20:37:23
Slanted terrain is done with gun traps, which are units. Mapping programs only do terrain, so they won't put in the slantedness.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by .Coko[CK] on 2004-12-28 at 11:36:41
So its point is rather to align terrain and make it appear more presentable, rather than create the affect perfectly?

^- Hey at least someone posted something! Even though it is crap...

Note that you could also use sprites to get the same effect, which is considered terrain(doodads).

If it's any consolation, DK, I'm ripping off your beach effect for a map I'm making. So this thread has helped somebody.

I am using the slanted water thing for my Trigger-08 map. I mean, seriously, that diamond would make the best arena! I'll give you credit for this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-12-29 at 19:55:51
Don't give me credit, give krazydrunkking credit. He created the original map and the concept.
