Back in 1996, I played a game on a computer at my dad's work. It was called Escape Velocity, and was a 2D game in the style of Elite - flying around space in an open-ended game where you could take missions, trade commodities, pillage unsuspecting freighters - pretty much anything.
In 1999, I rediscovered this game and after 'completing' it, found that a sequel had been released in 1998 - Escape Velocity: Override. It was pretty much the same game with a few extra features and a completely different story and ships, but still good.
Around this time (as I was just getting to grips with forum communities), a man called Martin Turner created a TC [Total Conversion] for Override called 'Frozen Heart.' People were amazed at just how in-depth it was, and at its fantastic storyline. A few years later, just before the third game was released - Escape Velocity: Nova - Turner released his short novel that he had based the TC on. It's about 130 pages long, was never published (meaning that I can distribute it for free on this site) and is pretty damned good. It gets a bit technical and philosophical in places, but it didn't put me off, and I read it in one night.
You can download the Windows version of Nova
here - it's pretty good - trust me.
Anyway, I've attached the novel for your reading pleasure. Any feedback would be great, but I'm not particularly expecting anybody to even
finish the novel, let alone give feedback.
If you'd like it in Microsoft Word format, just ask and I'll upload it. It's currently in .rtf format.
