As someone stated on warboards "We're not ruining earth by polluting it, we're ruining earth for humans and other life" Personally I beleive he has a good point. Earth will be here a long time after we blow it up or sap it of its natural resources, but it wont be able to support humanity.

Not just humanity, but all other living species on earth, especially those living in the water
QUOTE(CaptainWill @ Dec 29 2004, 07:40 AM)
I'm sure nature will correct itself, given time. I'm of the belief that nature is always trying to maintain the status quo, as I've mentioned on other threads.
How this status quo will be reached with us humans involved is anybody's guess. Maybe we'll kill ourselves off; maybe we'll change our ways; maybe nature will compensate in other ways, such as the increased abundance of plants that will inevitably partner higher CO2 levels in our atmosphere.
I'm not sure if status quo is actually the best way of putting it, maybe 'equilibrium' is better.
Maybe reaching to the stars is the answer - Titan (a moon of Saturn with decent atmosphere) looks good for colonisation, and some planets could be used to harvest resources unable to be gotten from Earth.
Update on Titan: Ok, it's a little cold for colonisation, has no oxygen and a gravity of 1.6G, but we could still try something there: Apparently it's very similar to Earth just before life began to appear.

Nature can correct itselfs by renewing the renewable resources. But they can't replenish the nonrenewable resources.
Maybe we might invent some sort of new energy that can do all sorts of crazy stuff like restore mothernature or replace other forms of resources and stuff.
Of all the planets and moons in our solar system, Our Moon and Mars are really the best 2 possible places for colonization. The moon mainly because of it's close distance to earth and Mars because it's atmosphere does contain some oxygen and maybe even some water i think.

I don't know about you guys, but I think it would suck living inside a moon with machine recycled air for my entire life. =\ We better fix things up before the next generations have to live in crappy extremes. Because a lot of people in governemt don't care, they only care about now, then we have to do something drastic, otherwise everything will be utterly screwde.

It's kind of too late to clean things up. Millions of people are littering the streets everyday, acres and acres of the Tropical forest are being burned away, and gallons and gallons of toxic waste and pollutants are being poured into our waters and atmosphere. We need a miracle to completely fix things up.
QUOTE(nuclearrabbit @ Dec 31 2004, 05:27 AM)
If you've ever watched the original Matrix movie, you may have heard Agent Smith talk about classifying humans as a virus. I agree with this. Throughout history, humans have consumed all the natural resources in the area they're living in, then moved on to a new area once all the resources had been consumed. In the ever expanding search for resources, we've severly altered the areas where we've depleted everything. Destroying ecosystems, and wiping out entire SPECIES. Humans are a virus, a plague that will eventually destroy this planet, and make it uninhabitable. The only solution that I've come to that would completly fix this problem is to nuke the entire planet, and wait for evolution to restart, and go back to premortial soup.

Nuke the entire planet? Heh doesn't sound like the brightest idea but hey it might work...
QUOTE(Sessase @ Dec 31 2004, 03:35 PM)
I think it's the time to pay for Using too bad the Earth... We are acting like real babies... we can't take care of our own planet...And for what? Evolution....
I'm asking you, Do the sacrifice really value the evolution?

We're already facing the consequences of us abusing Earth. It's really the industrialized countries that are to be blamed for this since we're the ones that's eating up the earth with our pollution and overconsumption of energy and products.
And in response to your question... i dunno

QUOTE(PearS @ Dec 31 2004, 10:16 PM)
I think living on another planet would be friggen awesome. And if it starts to go that way, then pretty soon it would be mainstream and future generations won't know the difference. They will just have missed out on this kick ass planet. But by the time we are able to have people living on another planet/moon/whatever...i'm pretty sure we will have the technology to leave our little cluster and find earth-like planets. MAYBE OTHER RACES O_o.

Living on a nother planet would be awesome, but we'd all be living inside huge indoor space stations. That's not as fun as going outside on earth, laying in the grass, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine...
QUOTE(nuclearrabbit @ Jan 2 2005, 03:29 AM)
Humans think they're the smartest living thing on earth, that's nowhere near the truth. How many other animals have killed off species of animals? How many animals PERMANENTLY alter the earth? How many other species Kill eachother for no reason? How many other animals are concerned with decency? None. Humans are the stupidest animals on earth. They should be wiped out for the good of life on this planet.

Humans aren't the smartest race living on earth, but what makes us the most unique race on earth is our written language.
QUOTE(Spirit of the Silent @ Jan 2 2005, 03:21 PM)
The problem with humans is that we change our enviroment instead of us adapting to our enviroment. In our need to make life easier, we actually make it more complicated.
Colonization of new planets and such is not going to happen for a long long time if it ever does happen. And instead of nuking the entire world I believe a killer virus would be better. Or maybe an ice age. But then again nukes would be good.
To bad we can't just live off the land and adapt like the Bushmen in Africa.
I can't imagine living without technology..
One day there will be few animals on Earth that survive without adapting to human cities.
Chances are that we will kill off everything on earth before we ourselves die off.

That's the problem about technology.
QUOTE(Zerg Playing Dead @ Jan 2 2005, 09:26 PM)
We'll kill ourselves before we can colonize other planets. Remember, he nearest planet we could colonize woulf be Mars, which would be completely dependant on Earth for a helluva long time. Then, the next furthest planet would be about 5 light years away. =\ crap, we are screwed!
Eventually, we'll probably have something like a nuclear war or the southern ice cap collapsing, that'll kill a lot, but the rich will be the ones to survive, and more than half of the rich I assume are jerks. We need to kill the idiots, but a lot of people are dumb, and they would be really pissed. -.-
I do agree with that quote from the Matrix, it is true. What we do is fine if we don't kill everything and things are able to replemnish by the time we get back to them. It just ain't happening.

Mars could be a good place for colonization but to get there requires at least 6 months of travel. And until we have invented something like lightspeed, i dont think anyone's willing to go on a 6 month trip to live a risky life in a strange new world...
