Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Jungle Terrain
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2004-12-29 at 19:47:39
Hello fellows. I'm working on a map and I want some really neat ideas for what I can do with the jungle tileset. There is but one condition - that it looks natural. No blocky terrain; it has to look like ISOM. Also try to keep it in a rather confined space. Other than that this is just a gallery to post cool terrain, like SEN doesn't have enough of those *har har*

There was that "beach" that I made, then there is this...

It's something I,ve done for a terrain... it's less complicated than using dirt happy.gif

DK, that looks pretty nice, but it's a little too blocky for my liking.

Press this link, play the map in Single Player, and use 'Black Sheep Wall' There are some mountain things in it, as well as terrain changing height, which normal terrain does in levels, not smoothly (unless you count ramps)

I'm too lazy to make my own to show you, so I'll just post links tongue.gif

Legacy of Hæan RPG has some nice terrain, all maps by qpirateking have nice terrain, press the links in his signature.

DK, I really liked that torch idea, that was an awesome building.

edit:

Try this link, its an old thread about SF terrain.

For the blockyness of my temple, any suggestions to fix it? I could probably blurr it a bit so it doesn't look so blocky, because there aren't any good tiles to fix it.

Here is a waterfall I am working on right now.

What are those white lines streaming down the water fall?

That looks AWESOMELY AWESOME! OMG!!!!

Oh well, any good beaches? With sand and water connecting?

Waterfall is at 90 sprites right now, temple has 49.

I'll do a beach for you... actually it was the "beach" I posted in the other thread but it needed work.

The white lines are not animated, they are pure sprites. Bullets >> EldFire.grp. Also known as sprite 344.

wow... i have no clue how to just add sprites like that into a map.

Here is a crappy beach, I KNOW it can be improved.

EDIT:

Oh yea the waterfall is actually 95 sprites including the hallucinations.
The beach is 68 sprites.

Note the "water" actually moves up and down like a beach. It looks better in game than a screenshot.

Jungle terrain is the most interesting of terrain, in my opinion.
It consists of various doodads and has a very neat and clean
in-game look. This attracts Starcraft users to your map, but, it
does not, how ever, have many minimap colors. But only other
map makers really take notice to that portion of the map, and
it has little effect on the other users.

The jungle basically has most of badlands terrain, and its own temple terrain. The sprites are universal though. They can be used in any tileset, like the units.

The jungle terrain also has the most types of terrain. Its bridges are nice too and can be used also in different situations.

DK, YOU ARE DAMN AMAZING!!!!! I never would have thought of any of those things, how do you come up with these ideas, you and QP are both geniuses at terrain.

StarForge does them, it has a sprote later, just like location and unit layers etc.

I Agree! Those waterfalls are soo.. Cute :cute:
The bullets aren't going to shown 1 time and disappear forever?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nozomu on 2004-12-31 at 00:33:30
Nah, they stay. But my SC usually crashes when I screw around with bullet sprites. Did you just do a lot of testing to find out which ones work, DK?

Heres a few I just did.

Too bad I can't do square terrain on my Mac, unless I hex. The thing about Jungle is how diverse it is; lots of doodads and terrain types. Twilight is a good tileset, also.
That waterfall... w00t.gif SUPER SEXY!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Chill on 2004-12-31 at 07:14:55
Twilight is cool but you can't do as much with the terrain as you can withe jungle.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by notnuclearrabbit on 2004-12-31 at 07:30:21
Agreed.
Most un-sexy tileset = badlands/space. I don't like them. But badlands looks good at 64x64 on the minimap when used like this.

Does anyone have any idea what to use for the waterfall animation? Observers/Floor hatches don't work too well. :/
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2004-12-31 at 09:51:19
Use cloaked units and have them fly from the top to the bottom and them kill them so that the bottom has different animations.

and make them hallucinated.
