Staredit Network -> Concepts -> What are the Computers really thinking?

This mainly applies to UMS map makers. In all the times you have made maps and tried to use A.I's for bases and such. Have you not seen some of the strangest things from the computers? I for one have seen just about everything, I would like everyone to share their weirdest computer A.I experiences.

At the moment I am working on a map that is your standard Terran VS Zerg bases with the humans playing as heros. I can assure you that I have created expansive bases that required no extra building, both factions start out with atleast 200+ supplies, ample production facilities, and over 9000000 resources. Yet for some unknown reason, my Terran using "Expansion Terran Campagin Insane" A.I has some sort of infactuation with supply depots. At some points during the game at random, it will detail every SCV is has to building mass supply depots around its Command Center. Atleast 50 supply depots are build, and it incases the Command Center completely, often blocking the SCV's from getting back to the resources depending on how they are built. Odd huh?

I've tested the map about 3 times under various conditions for the A.I, here's my Zergs little idea of "Insane A.I" This has only happened once, but about 15 minutes into the game, the Zerg took about 40 or so Hydralisks and sent them against the enemy base which had already been devestated from earlier attacks, so the only real defences were units. It was like watching a newb play in Melee with the right clicking. These units just kept running deeper into the base regardless of what was attacking them. They were all slaughtered without ever delivering a point of damage to the Terran defenders.

If any A.I specialists out there can give me possible conditions to affect their behaviour I would appreciate it.

Thats all, lets see everyones weirdest A.I experiences.

When I was new to map making, I made a map where you couldn't get out fo your base because of minerals, you had to mine your way out. (I was always Terran and flew to the middle base and mined the minerals there, it was very safe, biggrin.gif) Anyawys, the computer would always do the same thing. It built 3 spore colonies in the back of the base, a queen's nest in the left, with a Spire and hydralisk den, an extra hatchery and a spawning pool on the right, and a sunken sort of on the left. Every time I played, the Zerg would play them same (if it had the bottom base). Protoss would build pylons everywhere, and make just zealots, no dragoons, so it was easy to pick off with air, this happened when Protoss was in the top base. Terran actually kept it's brain atleast a bit, it would go all the way through the tech tree, but on this map is was so easy to rape the computer it wasn't even funny. I wonder if I still have it, lol.

I once made a quick RPG where the middle area where you healed would kill all the enemy units. I played around with scripts, and on Insane, it would rush my guy in the middle, my guy just sat on the heal beacon as tons of zerg units died around it.
