Staredit Network -> Concepts -> forward and back button for text

I know this would take a lot of switches/deathcounts (w/e you use), but it gets anoying in some maps when there is a lot of text, or it goes through text once, so I just thought of the idea of having a forward and back button, done through the dropship spell method (or something similar) Actaully, back may be annoying, but being able to choose when the next part of the text start while talking to a guy who says a lot in your map or something woud be really neat and helpful, like in videogames where you press 'A' or something to continue with the text. It would also put less text on the page, so there's more chance people would read it, and if you wanted to skip ahead, just keep pressing the same unit on the dropship or w/e. I think I'll make a test map to do this if I remember to. Just an idea... what do you guys thnik?

I don't really think it's really "usefull", Why do you want to take soo many time to write text and let it be skipped?

Something you should try it's a journal, that you can read old important text to remember... wink.gif

If you've played the map before, it would be nice to be able to skip speech.

Other than that, your journal idea is really nice, it would take some work, but it is a really neat idea. I think I'll do that in a map I'm making, biggrin.gif

You shouldn't fear your hard work being missed or not noticed at all. Its kinda of a rule of mine, like when making a breif you can't fear your text going by too fast cause you will just end up with slow animation that looks like crap.

In the game some of the neatest things is the stuff you don't notice at all. Because instead you ither don't realize there is a problem where one would normaly be, or the next time around you see it and your like WOW I didn't notice that. I have spent hours doing things that people don't even notice when they actually play the map. I belive it is those little things that truely make it great.

On topic. I think a foward button is a good idea. The problem is i'm personally not too interested in a map that would require one. Unless you have alot of text it would just appear to be extra junk. Like "wtf is this dropship for?"

I think forward, back, and STOP buttons would be pretty useful in a map. That way you can display your text messages and if anyone missed one he can go back to read it. If anyone doesn't want to read it he can skip forward. And if anyone doesn't want any messages to begin with he can go to STOP.

That's a good idea. Is there a way to force their SC into subtitle mode and back?, or do they have to do it themselves, that would make things really easy, biggrin.gif

I think something like what was used in some parts of LoH would work, where you simply choose when you wish you continue with the text.

Just look at Legacy of Hæan... Pirate used a method that when you step away from a unit it will move on to the next part of text... Thats the easyest way I can think of...

I was originally thinking of something like the dropship method, then I saw qp's idea qith the gateway, and I figured that would be better. You could just need lots of switches or deathcounts. I think I'll try it in an RPG I'm going to make after I finish my current one. You will read a lot of computer screens to get infoprmation and stuff, and you can normally change pasges with that. It would also make tutorials much easier refer back to.
