13 is not enough. So, I pushed the limits.
This is groundbreaking experimentation. Have fun busting your StarCraft up. tongue.gif

Player 14+ Research

I haven't finished all players yet... I'll go higher with more updates.

So I take it these aren't supposed to be known about?

Wow. Technically, there are 255 players for you guys to find out about.

For P19, what do you mean by all players drop?

And maybe a sceenshot of the weird characters. I want to see what they look like.

EDIT: I just had a thought. Have you guys tried triggers for the other players? So we can have all 8 human players, and have computers that attack and stuff. That will truely push the boundaries of mapping.

Yoshi, get them some hosting! 8)!

EDIT 2: By following, you mean they attack you if you attack them, right? And you can set them via triggers to enemy, right?

These probably weren't meant to be found by Blizzard, mostly because they have effects unknown. But I'm doing this research so people can know... There are already some things that would be useful to UMS mappers. This is all pretty advanced stuff.
By following, I mean you attack them and they follow you endlessly without attacking you. They stick right next to the unit that attacked them. The weird characters are just ASCII characters, nothing you can't see in Character Map already. By all players drop, I mean each screen shows the other players in the game as dropped. "XXX has dropped from the game." The game continues for each as if they actually had dropped. I will most likely add these to the Terms section later as well as some theories/generalizations I have made.
Triggers are theoretically possible through GUEdit's trigger <-> text feature. But, it corrupts text strings within the map. Even so, that would be too time consuming and this base research must be completed first to find usable players for that.

*Added up to player 43. More to come.

I donno about hosting, its more like really cool information smile.gif

This looks really cool. I would help you experiment if I wasn't overloaded with tasks tongue.gif

Maybe when he finishes you can put it in the Tutorial DB

Meaning every player get's dropped, and they are still on B.net! And if the host left, he could create a new game by the same name and there would be multiple games of the same name!

Rofl the player that unallies himself...

As a whole I must say this project is quite intriguing. I added up to Player 60. I'm most suprised that after 42 most players are quite stable. I also added several terms and screenshots. The forced upgrades concept has become quite interesting... they have those upgrade numbers set and cannot be overwritten. Perhaps some kind of numeric symbolism by Blizzard? Now I have to go back and check other palyers for that stuff. Meh. :/

What kind of idiot does that..?

Player 33 is the idiot that does that. It's every unit for itself.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2003-12-30 at 22:04:50
you might as well just put every player in there tongue.gif because some people still yet do not know about the glorious player 13!

Actually, would P44 and P45 attack back if you attacked them, since they are normal, and are computer controlled. Or are they like neutral players?

And P49 and P50 seems like good computers to use in map protection, though people would have to deal with side-effects. Other that having it set to user-selectable, UMS maps usually doesn't need races though.

And by "Green" slot, you mean the green player on maps with Ice terrain, right?

Hmm, the possibilities to explore. Are there any side effects to the game? Like in P13, the speed increases. Maybe some of the "normal" player could have AI script run on them.

I just had a funny thought. Okay, in the suicidal player (P33), give that player all Dark Archons, and give them Mind-control, but remove all other ability. Set Mind Control to like 1 energy, or have a trigger giving them full energy again and again. And then watch the mind-controlling!

So far, I can see Players 1-13 the only useful ones. No doubt the future holds some more weird effects with staredit smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2003-12-30 at 23:28:44
What I don't get is how these are useful? Are they useful at all? Or do they just provide interesting/glitchy entertainment?

I just did negative players with minimoose and deathknight. Nothing special yet, but they seem promising.

They are truely amazing biggrin.gif once we get more information some of us will be using them in our maps!

I've been experimenting with Players 255 and 256.. From what I've seen they appear to be controlled by you.. each having a green circle around them once clicked on.. but they also have the RED enemy circle above them when you go over.. 255 and 256 are both normal and do not.. in my theory affect the staredit or starcraft at all.

Interesting....Very very interesting...Guess I better start up the old editor

If we can somehow find extra normal computers, then we can have 8 player maps with many computers in them.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2003-12-31 at 09:37:40
Read the report I believe it says a *few* are normal
Report, edit, etc...Posted by FizzleBoink on 2003-12-31 at 10:18:21
He had the word "extra" in it.. but the ones on the report also have some sort of side effect.. He probably means like a computer player such as Player 12.. would make mapping alot easier and stuff... Jesus.. I already use the Player 33 placement.. It owns smile.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2003-12-31 at 10:31:20
I asked him about it. "Normal" is not actually normal as we're thinking of it. He classifies all computers above 13 that act in the same ways in such that they: move toward you when you attack them, have black selections, have forced armor; as normal.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by FizzleBoink on 2003-12-31 at 10:37:35
Hmm.. so normal is alien normal.. anyways, you're looking for more computers that will respond in some sort of manner?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2003-12-31 at 11:23:56
We can define "Normal" as Following, MiniMap Cloaking, and Black selection circle. For players 14+, that's what they normally have. Perhaps with triggers, Following can be disabled and the players harnessed as computers.

Added up to Player 73. Freaky stuff began happening at around 65, so this is VERY interesting now, especially with the glitch realms created by p70 (four screenshots included). This is very insane, such as the terrain conversion with Player 71. This is my most major breakthrough so far. I name it... "The Moose Zone!" MUHAHAHA!!!1!!!1
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2003-12-31 at 11:28:53
We thinks that when you get over 255, it starts at another number again and repeats. We're not sure WHAT, but I tried player 1,000,000 and nothing interesting happened at all.
