It would appear that most of the sites for mac utilities for map making are disappearing quickly.

ANY programs, utilities and whatever related to starcraft and staredit that you deem useful can now be sumbitted in its own folder, Mac Tools. Third Party technical support will be avaliable for these programs, as long as a mac user is around to assist.

When submitting a Mac program, try to include all versions of the program for the different mac OSes if possible. Specify in the description which versions are supported.

Thanks.

Addition from Deathknight: "I am working on an editor, named 3rd Party Editor. It will have more functions than SCXE, and be for both PC and Mac. Nuclearrabbit will be doing the mac porting. However, just to make some things clear, this is not a stand-a-lone program, but a modification of the original Staredit, as SCXE is."

I'd like to come up with some sub-news;

I am working on an editor, named 3rd Party Editor. It will have more functions than SCXE, and be for both PC and Mac. Nuclearrabbit will be doing the mac porting. However, just to make some things clear, this is not a stand-a-lone program, but a modification of the original Staredit, as SCXE is.

So basically us Mac users would still have to run Classic to open StarEdit. Can someone try to make a Carbon version of it?

So far, I have no submittions of that type. This is expecially sad, since many mac users were complaining about how we didn't host enough mac tools. If we don't get enough, I'm taking the entire directory out.

If you have enough memory, Classic will be fine.

Also, the version of Staredit in the OSX version of SC appears to delete any units which it finds to be 'unplaceable' regardless of any patches being used.

Will, you're not using a complete patch, also, StarEdit can't handle stacked units, only 3 pixel offset ones...
Required files for 'Starcraft mac Patch' are:
 • arr\units.dat
 • arr\upgrades.dat
 • rez\stat_txt.tbl
 • scripts\aiscript.bin
 • scripts\bwscript.bin
 • unit\cmdbtns\cmdicons.grp

I've made a good SEMPQ that uses one of my custom patches here: [attachmentid=4062]

I've also submitted a few DLs to the DLDB...

Well... it sais there are 14 "mac tools", but when I go in there, it only seems to have 4. It probably counts the files that were submitted but not accepted...

Yea same here. Has anyone tried infoceptor, campaigncreations, and scindex?
If I have anytime, I'll try and look there to submit files here.

PS: Lots of news when Yoshi is around laugh.gif

I looked around since I last left and notice that there are no real mac sites for staredit left.

Yep, when I'm around, expect something new all the time wink.gif

Submitted Emerald Edit for OS X.

EDIT:
What, what's the deal with SuperEdit? What is so good about it?

I opened it and it looks just like regular StarEdit, so I'm not sure.

so that editor of yours will include all features of x-tra editor 2.6 and add new ones?
more color marks and more units perhaps?
you should also include that single player esc key action if possible

ò.ô Are there actually still that many people playing SC on Macs?! Not to mention the few Mac users that'd actually map.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DevliN on 2005-01-15 at 12:36:26
Well it would be helpful to me, and so far 500+ have downloaded StarFire Edit. So at least 500+ people still make maps on StarCraft...on Macs...

For some reason, SuperEdit only works some of the time... You could try extracting the MPQ from the package, and putting it in the Starcraft Files folder. Or, extract arr\units.dat, arr\upgrades.dat, rez\stat_txt.tbl, scripts\aiscript.bin, scripts\bwscript.bin, and unit\cmdbnts\cmdicons.grp from the MPQ, and make your own patch.

Despite what DeathKnight is doing, it would be very helpful if Blizzard themselves made a Mac OS X version of StarEdit. I searched around and found a petition for this.

http://petitiononline.com/staredit/petition.html

I myself am a Mac and I support the cause!

Guess what? Good luck on getting that to happen.... unless you are willing to pay blizzard at least $500,000 to update it. Don't believe me? Take a look at the quote below. It can be found under "What can we expect to see in future versions of StarEdit?".

What can we expect to see in future versions of StarEdit? There are currently no plans to add new features to future versions of Staredit. In a perfect world we could spend forever incorporating new features, adding more triggers and AI, and finding new ways to enhance StarEdit, but at some point we have to turn our attention to the next generation of Blizzard titles. The reasons for most of these decisions are technical, as they would require major redesign and coding to implement. We will, however, always address serious bugs.
