What do you people think? In my english class we are debating about topics. My topic is convienently The Military Draft. I want some good ol debate here, and I wouldn't mind some facts. By the way, just do a google search for "Military Draft" and you'll find several related web pages. I'm only 14 now, but some of you are 18+. Also, they have raised the military draft age up to 36 making it 18-36! Yikes...

I was really worried about a draft before the election. There was a lot of talk about bush reinstating the draft and the war could totaly go on for another four years (I'm also fourteen).

You think you're worried. I might have to run to Canada so they won't be able force me to kill anybody.

I don't think the draft will be reinstated. Aren't there other ways to escape the draft? Like being in college or something? Iono, anyways, i'm already in the Air Force so it doesn't effect me much =D.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Moogle on 2005-01-19 at 03:45:35
Well yea ways escape draft, anti-agains war, college, in other military things. But i dont think bush will renforced the draft may cause hassle with public, like civilians may rebel against bush, riots may happen who knows what could happen in drafting. All i know is its wrong and should never be enforced due to fact most people dont want take others peoples lives, we rather live in peace and smoke weed n game happy.gif;

College students won't escape from the draft this time around. It's not fair. Sending your kid to college during Vietnam was like buying their life from the government. It was as if the middle and upper class's children's lives had more value than the lives of the poor. Not fair at all.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MillenniumArmy on 2005-01-19 at 17:01:00
The drafting thing is stupid, plain stupid. You know what happened when we used drafted men? We lost a war (vietnam)! FOolish mistake.

And besides, we've got PLENTY of american troops. It's just that bush sent most, if not all, of them to iraq disgust.gif ranting.gif

I can't be drafted because I am the US right now, and I'm not a citizen, but I really hope the draft is not reinstated. It seems unlikely right now, but if terrorists ever did something like nuke a US city, I am sure Bush would react and try to crush the country the terroist was from. I also doubt this will happen, but if the draft is reinstated, my friends may be affected, their family members may have to go off to fight, and soon, some will be 18, so it would erally suck.

YAY![/sarcasm] Now remind me, WHY do you support Bush?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kame on 2005-01-19 at 19:59:35
Don't trust any .com or .net sites. .org sites are pushing it. stick to .edu, and .gov.

Most of it is anti-bush propaganda. There is no chance of a draft...Bush's war isn't popular enough.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mune'R0x on 2005-01-19 at 22:45:11
I don't really care about the draft, I'm going to be 18 in two years and I'm going right into the Army after I graduate. Don't matter to me. Just hope there is riots and Bush somehow dies in them. Muahahhah!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by StarEditron 4000 on 2005-01-19 at 23:16:41
Well, on a similar note, if you do not wish to be drafted (if it is reinstated) then trust me, DON'T go to any government websites or they'll find out that you are interested in the draft. I do all my research at the library, so I should be ok. And If I trusted .com, .org, or .net websites, I would have alot of bulls**t here.
But maybe some of it is just Anti-Bush Propaganda (Which I approve of because I absolutely hate Bush)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kame on 2005-01-19 at 23:37:47
Well, I'd love to ask why you hate Bush, but this isn't the topic to do that in.

Best thing about this is, im Australian so i dont get drafted .. well, just cut off one your feet or say you got disability or something and army wont let you in. Way it happens here..

You know that women can't be drafted? There's all that talk of treating them equally... when then treat them equally! I say they should be drafted in the same numbers as men. You can't have it both ways gals.

Also, there's an act between like Canada and the US saying that if you run to Canada in draft-time, US officials can come get you. : /

I have a better plan (instead of stupid draft, but not best plan). Get more British, French, etc. troops in the Middle-East. That way their troops can actually earn their money. No draft = happiness. I know that's about the most redneck thing I've ever said, but I'd rather the people that signed up for military service go instead of myself. I don't think an author, gamer, musician, etc. would do well in the army...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by best.sock on 2005-01-20 at 16:46:21
I really don't think a draft would not happen in the political enviroment we are in. Mostly 'cause of the posture a large percentage of america has taken to the war, and secondly because there are enough troops, and enough willing to join.

You talking about me or MA, because I am really anti-bush, he's just in charge right now, and I can't do much about what he does. =\

A draft would make Bush even more unpopular, but that doesn't seem to bother him at all.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-01-21 at 16:14:52
He's a little war-mongering bastard. I hope he gets put down somehow. A new world war perhaps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by notnuclearrabbit on 2005-01-22 at 06:07:06
The problem is that in this world, nothing can be solved without killing people. Now that US citicens seem to be getting a little smarter, they're realising that they shouldn't have to kill people for their government. Alot less people seem to be joining the Army/Navy/everything else. I hope oneday the whole world can be run by Anarchists...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Nozomu on 2005-01-22 at 10:40:50
Bush can do anything he wants to censored.gif over the people who voted for him because he doesn't have to worry about being elected again. So don't think that political unpopularity will change his actions in any particular way.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mune'R0x on 2005-01-22 at 14:29:09
Well, if I became a soldier of some sort, a trained killer, I'd do something to a certain somebody that rhymes with Shush that it is illegal to say. I'd take one for the team if it gets too out of hand. If ya all know what I mean... Don't report me! Hahahaha... Just kidding...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Bringer on 2005-01-23 at 03:06:27
Ahh but yet if you listen to our constitution it shouldn't be illegal to say "I am Gonna kill Bush he is a stuid bastard." Now that wasn't so hard was it? But that law of freedom of speech is fraud b.c they can get me for Conspiricy to commit murder. Also right now they care kinda doin a back door draft with the reserves and yes the National Guard. In my moms Guard newsletter it was stating how congress said the US active duty military is not capable of handling a war so all active duty military components in Iraq will be cycled through and replaced with Reserve and Guard Units. Which is also another way for America to censored.gif foot its way out of Iraq and if there is more casualitys(Which most of them so far are Active duty yet over 50% of the forces in Iraq right now are Guard and Reserve units.)they can say its just the poorly trained Guard and Reserve and not admit that the Insurgents are getting smarter. Of course War with Iran is possible right now but hard to tell as of yet. Also it sickens me when Americans call the Iraq's that are fighting us back terrorist and cowards. A missle launched from 1000 miles away is kinda cowardice to me but yet americans are praised. Also in the 1770's I remember People hiding and making cheap attacks and packing gun powered to make explosives to fight against a government they didn't agree with so give the Iraq insurgents a break and praise them a bit on a side note b/c they have the balls to stand up against America for what they beleive in like Americans stood up against the British in 1770's.

LOL, I never even heard of that kind of act. Also, Doesn't the USA has women in the army? In Infantry, Air Force, Navy, Navy Marines, and Special Forces?

We do, but that's only if they join voluntarily. They still can't be drafted.
