Don't have the cash for Warcraft three? No problem! Now you can play it with the wonders of Starcraft! Although it's not an exact replication....its pretty close. To those of you who do play Warcraft 3...you will notice little things here and there that aren't right. But remember, it's Big ole Warcraft 3 inside tinny ole Starcraft. This isn't a final version. I'm sure there are a few bugs and there may be a few balance issues as well. If you would be so kind as to report them to me via my contact info or this thread, I would be greatly appreciative. Well here are some specs of the map.

Terrain from Warcraft 3 melee map: Rock Quarry

Four playable races.

Two heros per race; each with two normal spells and one ultimate spell

All the units from Reign of Chaos.

Simulated supply so all units take up food.

Random start locations!!

Hmm that's all I can think of now. If everyone likes this map, then maybe I will create another one using a different Warcraft 3 melee map.

Hmm..Interesting. I think I'll try this out. I dont really like Wc3 much but if its on SC ill surely play it happy.gif. I just hope its not the same exact melee gameplay. Because on wc3 I hate it how you cant get big armies like in starcraft and I dont like relying on heroes to save your entire race :/

Wc3 is mostly strategy opposed to massing. Of course some races still do mass but they have way more strategy now.

But yes your hero does count for a lot more than in SC where your armies, you don't even need to use your hero to beat the level.

Yes I tried to do the stats to where if you were going to lose a battle...it is better to run and heal rather than let your men get slayed. And yes, heros are extremely important, especially early game. But because I choose not to include hero levels or item usage they aren't as great when the enemy has tier 3 units. HOWEVER...where they lack in shere fighting power against such strong enemies, they make up with their ultimate spells which can turn the tide of a battle. Maybe I will add hero levels and a dropship item usage system in a special edition version of the map. Maybe....

Hmm sounds pretty good i'll try it out, i dont see how alot of people can prefer starcraft over warcraft3...maybe it's just they can't afford it. cool1.gif

SC map making has more limits to be broken. Wc3 map making is a self-taught type thing. I prefer SC because Wc3 has too many things you need to do and it's confusing sometimes when you are trying to do the things that are "simple" in SC and you cant find which trigger does that in Wc3. Also Wc3 map editor lags a lot.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by VoidArchon(MC) on 2005-01-20 at 13:57:23
It would only lag alot when your running to much programs, warcraft 3 editor has basicly no limit to what you can do, custom skins, custom spells, even text activating triggers! just people don't take the time to learn it all because it's to advanced. tongue.gif See if ever starcraft 2 is to comes out, the editor will most likely be even more advanced... tongue.gif

I tried the map but it took to long to start the game, to much waiting... so everyone left...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PearS on 2005-01-20 at 15:29:36
YA the wait is really gay. But I had no choice but to put it in. See the way I did random start locations was place each races' main building at every spot for p12. Then they are randomly given out and the leftovers are removed. But because one of the buildings is a hatchery so there is creep everywhere. I had to give the creep time to disperse. IF anyone has another method on how to do this...please let me know. But wow...they left. Its only two minutes O_o.

Ok some people told me a few things that need to be changed.
1.) Hero ultimates need to be forced onto the hero instead of being free roaming
2.) The Archmage's Blizzard spell placeholder at the bottom of the map is a different unit. (It still casts blizzard though)
3.) Kodo beast has too much hp.

Please list any complaints you have with the map (Besides the wait =p). I won't make numerous versions, but instead i'll fix a bunch of things all at once and release the next version. Thanks.

If I had warcraft editor and it gave me all those possibilities I would definitely use it over SCXE. All I hear about it is that people are too dumb to use it well.

Come on guys we'd like more people to try this map pears put a lot of work into it. We have the official version 1.0 about to come out and we would like everybody to try it out. The only probable changes after it will be for balancing issues.

If there is enough of a response for the map I will be happy to up somewhat of a 'readme' that explains everything in the map and even some strats. Get ready to download the first version guys-keep your eye on this thread.

Ok map update. I removed that annoying long wait and redid random start locations. Did ALOT of unit balancing. Changed a few units around. The first beta is now done (the map above is like a prebeta). When we have it super balanced, the terrain will be redone. We also plan to do about two more maps with different tilesets. I can't upload the beta at the moment because my laptop gayed and I have to retrieve the map from the Hdd by plugging it into my parents' computer. Maybe tommorow or the next day i'll put it up. Oh and Hash and I are looking for two good testers. The map is best played in 2v2s. We would perfer that you have played Warcraft 3 before. Go to channel 'Bored 2' if you want to help.

Try doing a Randomizing Trigg that chooses the places for em and creates the buildings. Now this would mean minerals need to be backed off as well as vespene.
But it would really help your problem alot if u just set some way of randomizing in beginning with switches, and then create the Buildings for beginning. If you don't understand, just post again and i can explain( though i doubt it.)

Hahaha. I'm advanced; I know how to do random start locations =p. I was having trouble because I didnt want to do spawning because I had a cerebrate at each main spawn to detect early cloaked hero rushes. Therefore I had to preplace all buildings, including a hatchery. So there was creep everywhere and it was a big mess so I decided to scrap the cerebrate totally. Thanks for the help anyway. Oh and Hashmalum got me the latest version I gave to him and i'm going to unprotect it and redo the changes that were on my laptop that go screwed up. We are going to try to have a good version with some decent terrain ready for you guys on mapnight. The current terrain has tons of mineral patches all over it. I was trying to simulate how trees are kind of protection and base guidlines in the real game...but it causes so much lag that we are going a different route with lumber.

Wow..I love SC. Wc3 just isnt as good. I know a lot of people who would choose SC over Wc3. I prefer SC becuase of the melee and map making. Wc3 map making is very good indeed, many things to do. SC gives you a certain ammount of things to do, I try to make the best of those things I can. Plus, I am just a SC fan. But back to the game! Yeah I tested it, it seems real nice. You did great work converting the Wc3 styles into SC. Good job.

I perfer Warcrat 3 melee over Starcraft melee. But I have dialup and I can't really play WCIII too much with this crappy connection =/.

i didnt read yet all these posts but i saw one along the top there... saying wc is MORE strategy the starcraft? ive played both and use to play with progamers along starcraft ... there is definently WAY MORE STRATEGY and unit CONTROL involved in that of starcraft then warcraft... but i guess ud hafta play the game to that level to find out... when u dont know a game well enuf usually u r newbie and just mass out.. MICRO play > over MACRO play when used correctly...

Well Warcraft 3 does require more skill then starcraft whats so hard about starcraft no heros no really critical upgrades nothin like that(Not saying warcraft 3 is better just saying it requires more strat)

Personaly I tested the version you posted 2 days ago and the Undead Necromnancers Are WAY UNFAIR... Seriously i was playing with cow and he was Undead I was Human he had 5 necromnancers and he killed My Paladin, 8 Footmen and 2 riflemen by creating broodlings... Fix...

-Very Laggy
-Whats up with the Druid Of Talon...
-Creep prevented my from building with Nightelves and Humans And Orc...
-Make better mineing system because well... Lets face it... I dont want my whisps coming back to my Tree of life... Thats the coolest thing about nightelves, the way they mine...

Good map Looking Forward To the Completed Version

Good map Looking Forward To the Completed Version

The Broodlings are fine. They get mowed down. Druid of the Talon is a caster in WC3 and the Science Vessel's skills are very similar to his own. The creep problem is fixed. The mineral gathering is tweaked. The minerals thruought the map have been fixed and replaced with a new method. And you are just going to have to live with the wisps bringing minerals to the tree of life. You have to remember that this is starcraft and some things aren't going to be the same. I did balance it out however. In Wc3 wisps don't have to bring the wood to a tree of life but they only get half the wood. This way they get full wood but have to bring it to tree of life. And if you don't like the druid of the talon as a caster, then you are going to have to live with that too. Hash and I thought about units long and hard and the players that know what they are doing will use a lot of casters because they are really good. For example my favorite strategy is to use the Human Archmge and go all casters and use his brilliance aura to keep my casers at 100% mana. Oh and the handfull of you that were probably looking forward to this map on mapnight but didn't get to play it because I wasn't there...sorry. My dad had to go through a serious operation and I spent friday and saturday at the hospital. I'll be going back there today and maybe when I get home i'll try to finish my work on this version of the map. If you guys see Hashmalum you should let him know because I am sure that he is super pissed at me.

I still think StarCraft is bigger than WarCraft. So its more like little WarCraft inside BIG StarCraft!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheOddAngel on 2005-02-03 at 09:56:25
How is starcraft bigger then Warcraft... Have you seen how big there map sizes can be? If they have 12 players that makes it bigger also... If they have 4 races that makes it bigger also...

Ya were going to make it as close as possible to the real game. It's just about finished now. Were just playing it now tweaking the balancing and fishing out any bugs that still may exist. Before we release it, Hashmalum to do a major rehaul on the terrain. I am playing with the resize feature in Starforge because the map seems a bit cramped but I have had no luck so far and Hash is probably going to just have to work with it. However, if we decide to make another version on a different tileset, it will be a lot bigger. Maybe this mapnight or next mapnight you will get to play it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PearS on 2005-02-28 at 21:32:49
Ok here it is. This version is pretty much perfectly balanced in Hashmalum and my opinions. There are no know bugs and there shouldn't be any because i've combed this thing many times. Terrain has been tweaked and minerals removed to get rid of lag. Lame wait at start fixed. The bottom menu things are cleaned up and organized. Spell prices are now in the actual spell name. Added a beacon where you can get info for the spells for your heros at the bottom. Added wait time for hero revival. I also added a few Frozen Throne units to make the game a bit more fair. I'll be in the SEN channel if anybody wants to play.

A few things I ask of you guys. Please report any bugs or comments on unit/spell statastics on this thread. I would also like your thoughts on the way I did lumber. I used sprites as the trees so the gatheres wouldn't be blocked getting to the lumber. This however allows people to move their armies through the trees and build on the trees. I feel this makes it hard to people to defend themselves but Hash thinks it is ok. Your thoughts will help us out.
