Yet another great feature we now have that is seen no where else.
"Map Spotlight" is a box of 4 maps, which our downloads database keepers find exceptional. They will update the box whenever a map has been showcased for over a week or so.
The advantages of having your map listed under Map Spotlight is obvious. You will get a lot more attention towards your map if it is showcased here, because its the first thing everyone sees.
How do you get your map listed under spotlight? Easy. Just submit your map to the downloads database, and if a downloads database keeper thinks your map is one of the best maps they've played in a while, they will put it up there.
This feature replaces "map of the month" as we had before.

I think this new concept is cool but wont it be a bit annoying comming on SEN and then seeing those huge pictures as the first thing you see? I think it should be reduced or take the pictures away after maybe a week. I don't know, this is only my opinion.

Done... but you'll be missing out on interesting maps that may appear or your own maps that may appear.
If I find people are being ignorant about the maps being displayed there, I'll remove the minimize button, because everyone should see it.

Well, the thing is cool but i think it kind of gets into the way of the actual "news" content. At first glance, it will be impossible to tell if there's any more news posted or such. You'll have to scroll down past those ss and if there's nothing new, scroll back up.

Yeah I haven't been up to date on the latest great maps of the community, so I just threw in a few I already knew about.
Oh yes, and something thats cool is that we'll advertise your map for you and give it a description for people to be motivated to download

I agree. I think it would be cool to have a "Map Maker of the Month" thing where one map maker is awarded and all of his/her maps would be recognized and congradulated. To really make it more of a community effort in this, you could have people nominate and vote for others, kinda like how you did it when you chose the map reviewing team.

Randomness? Part of an updated reviews system would randomly select one map that had an overall score of 8.0 or better and put it on top of the map review screen...

Well, I never visit the portal page because my bookmark is set at the forum index. However, if I was to make use of the portal, it would be pretty annoying. It could be on the side maybe.

Overall score according to the review system, not what I dubed 'the community rating'. And if a map reviewer was scoring maps at 10 just because a friend asked him to, they wouldn't be an unbiased reviewer... and I'm sure it'll eventually lead to the downfall of their position .

Ya, I just look to see if there is something new, but I don't scroll down. Now, I only see maps, and since I don't scroll down, I can't see the news, and I think I'm not the only one who does that.

I could add a minibox on the left side that gives the 3 latest news titles.
