Silence.
The moment their hands stopped movement, silence fall upon the people inside the Café. Not a word from anybody.
Starting with a conflicts of Zealot-Dragoon against Tank-Wraith, to the blinding micro-management show offs of Ghost locking down Carriers, ending with the sudden rise of Dark Archons and Battle Cruisers, both players were worn off. At the end of the game, both screens were crowed with factories and anti-air. When the last Archons blew up the final tank, battle’s end. The terrans whom dominated two thirds of Lost Temple lost. Even though he has countless anti-air in, spider mines filled land and a whole line of Factories, he lost. The whole match lasted one hour and eleven minutes.
Over harvesting! There is not a single penny to be seen on the whole map.
A tall boy stood up. He is the winner. He defended the glory of the mighty Protoss using two Archons, winning by a little points up.
Jonathan, number one. He is born to be the top. Truth is, he is really the number one SC playerer within the university. No matter how strong his opponents are, he will win. He is number one. One in ten thousand of the university.
Stanley stood up, too. Until now then did people realize how much power this fragile seeming body hold. His fingers, long and still, cold but strong. He stood there, sweat dripping down his cheek. ‘You’re better. See ya next term!’ Stanley grinned.
See ya next term! That's another challenge. ‘Sure. I await you!’ Jonathan replied.
Stanley is a genius. At least that’s what all SC players agreed so. After this match, Stanley will be famous. He almost defeated the legend of this school—Jonathan. Now, what’s Jonathan doing?
The match was over, Stanley returned to his house with tire. 4 years ago, he rented an apartment near the university with 2 of his peers. However, with one of them studying out of the country, and another constantly working in the laboratory, this big 150 meter square apartment belonged mostly to him. He opened his mailbox, a girl’s writing attached on a note: ‘You lost, didn’t you? I told you you’re no match for him. You should have listened to me.’
‘Listened to you?’ Stanley smiled, murmuring to himself, ‘not a bad idea.’
He entered his room with the note, and turned his Personal Computer. Opening his e-mail account, he sent an e-mail: ‘I did loose today, but I will win next term…can I see you? Teacher?’
He clicked the ‘send’ button, then the StarCraft logo. His pinky above the shift key, his ring finger and middle finger touching the s key and d key. Index finger laying on the b key, and thumb touching spacebar. This is standard fingering position for StarCraft players. This keyboard had 19 keys only. All other keys were plugged off. This is a keyboard for StarCraft only.
‘Goliath, sight 8, building time 40, attack rate 22; Wraith, sight 8, building time 30, attack rate 30……goddamn……I remembered these stuff, why bother recapping it again?’
He groaned, entering Battle.net as he closed his database.
Another speechless night…
