Staredit Network -> StarForge -> Starforge! Hard to use Or easy?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-01-25 at 19:20:52
I find Starforge vERy annoying to use... I like the new verison but not as much...

My problems with Starforge:
-Can't use arrow keys to move map...
-Annoying Errors and Bugs!
-Resizing is great! But 5% might work!
-Hard To use triggers
-Abit annoying to use Square Terrain...
-Sometimes placing units show its unplaceable if you edit the map with Staredit...

It's really easy to use. It's not for beginners, and requires you to make adjustments, but they're not so hard to get used to.

I have to agree with you 50%

The reasons I love SF 2.2

--Personally I love the triggers they are much faster.
--Easy to change Player Colors
--Unit naming is really easy
--I like how SF paints the doodads on because then it saves space on your map

Things I absolutely can't stand about SF

--The isometric terrain is so sh!tty
--Bugs,Bugs,Bugs they seem to crash my map a lot

But that is all i can think of right now

I would say use SCMdraft for terrain and unit placement then SF 2.2 for triggers

But thats just me smile.gif

Reasons I like Starforge:
  • fast, easy trigger editor
  • advanced options
  • built-in protector (albeit a weak one)

Noob that say OMG dont use Starforge is so censored.gif ing complicated annoy the hell out of me.

I agree with DT, but most people dont know how to hack the mpq so i dont protect with anything else unless i feel like releasing a really big map

The sad thing is i used to be one of those n00bs that said SF was too hard then just one day I opened SF 2.2 and looked and an old map of mine and looked at the triggers and saw how easy to use SF was. I was kind of mad at myself for not realizing how fast and easy to understand SF was!!

This is still a Beta version and it's guaranteed that you will encounter bugs.

Actually Starforge is very easy to use. After only a couple of hours of using you get the hang of it and you will rely more on Starforge more than any other editor except on terrain which SCMDraft would be a wiser choice.

SF Triggers are the best out there and none can compare(for now). I can do them much faster than in those old SCXE click triggers that take too much time.

Sure SF terrain is quite bad, but everything else is pretty good and Heimdal did a great job creating Starforge.

ehh...i personally dont like starforge triggering. i know how to use it but i dont like to because in scxe i can visually see the trigger but in starforge i can't and i always try to use the shortcuts but i always end up taking longer. i like the sprites but hate the terrain. overall, i barely use the editor and it can be a bit hard at sometimes but sometimes i am forced to use it because scxe cant place units directly over one another.

meh, I love the terrain and sprite options, but I can't get my triggers to work well.. I know the format of them.. but when I save and reload, it shows the triggers as blank.. I don't know if i have an old version or what.

Bugs in StarForge? I've never actually run into a bug that crashed StarForge. The biggest bug I can think of is that you can't rename the Templar Archives, it always reverts to its default name.

Are you selecting who the trigger is meant for?

Use numpad 2,4,6,8. Arrow keys are used for moving selected units and sprites around. Know of any other editors that can do that? Didn't think so.

I don't believe I've ever received a bug report from you...

Resizing terrain does not work yet.

-Hard To use triggers
I think DT said it best...

How could it get any better?

That's staredit's problem, not SF's.

I believe you get a Run-Time error 6 if you click on a color symbol without your cursor in a text box (not sure if that is still true). Besides it doens't matter if it crashes, that what the auto-backup is for.

Well, with SCMDraft trigedit beta, im' sure it can be compared... still reallly buggy, but, that's getting something, u get all the triggers of the map in one editbox ! (like a .txt)

Starforge is in my opinion the best map editor becuase it can create a full map with everything you want without any other help (From other programs). It saves backups etc.

I also find it extremley easy because I was on the old TSE forums, so I picked up valuable infromation.

That is because you did not select the force/player to make the trigger to belong to. Too used to the other ediors that do it automaitcally when you press new trigger for the player tongue.gif

I guess i'm lucky because Starforge has never crashed on me. It is a really usefull program but the doodad thing is really lame. Is there no way to be able to place sprites and not mess doodads up? I assume being able to place sprites is why Starforge screws doodads up. Anywho I personally do not use or like the Starforge triggers. I really don't understand how to use it. You have to like type everything in. So you have to like know how every trigger is worded exactly? Meh w/e. I should learn how to do Starforge triggers because being able to copy and paste is freaking awesome.

...but really the import is not the editor ohmy.gif , the import is the idea
of the person, a person with great editor but with bad idea create a
poor map cry.gif and a person with simple editor but with great idea, sure
this person create great maps! happy.gif
