i doubt another can be created.  starcraft gaming has matured enough to have covered every genre.  any 'new' ones will simply be a combination of pre-existing ones.  Just about the only one we don't have is MMORPG. which is simply  impossible + impractical.  no one would play a map forever and no one would want to make a map to be played forever.  not literally forever, but you get the point.

concerning new mapmaking concepts,  i think the practical limit has already been reached.  sure, there are special 'niches' that are still 'undiscovered,' but they're being discovered for making a fun map, they're just discovered for the sake of being discovered.  Even at that, i think individuals are running out of gas.  the way i see it, the only new major concepts would come from team efforts.  still, it'd probly be done less for fun and more for showing it could be done.

I wouldn't concur, but in my opinion I would say that certain map making qualities that were considered pro in, say, 2000 are now not as "pro" as they used to be. They are getting around a lot more.

Hmm... new map to being succesful don't need to be very complex but still decent complexity is actually required. About half of maps that I'm downloading from DB and launching are looking so simple an it is visible that not much work is put in that im exiting it after 2 minutes. And what about fresh ideas - wait for my Room Wars: Tactics map to see that is still a lot new to discover smile.gif.

A topic exactly like this was posted months ago. Maybe a year. Seems relevant to the truth of it, don't you think?

I'm too lazy to read one and a half pages, so hopefully no one said this already.

Mapping has changed alot over a year, so lets see if we've made any progress.

Of course we haven't reached the end! I've got about 4 or 5 gunner systems in my head, which I'm working on right now...

My point is, we've got miles to go.

Miles of code; that is.

Actually, I did try a music creation game once.  But I doubt I'll finish it.
Man I wish I was more than one person right now...

Being a music lover I myself dabled in a music making map, but abandoned it because I found it impossible to get the quality I really wanted it to have and yet have it be reasonably sized. Its pretty cool to see that others have had the same idea, especially such an awsome mapper as yourself.
