Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-03-04 at 20:24:21
I'm just starting this as a little thing all moderators should keep in mind to make them operate more independantly and professionally. I know this is currently very small, right now, but fear not, this will grow as time goes on. Please post up suggestions as you wish.

INTRO // GENERAL
Welcome to the Moderator's Handbook. This handy creature can help in times when you need wisdom and guidance.

These are the rules. Know them, enforce them.

WARNING MEMBERS
1: ALWAYS read the member's warn logs before warning them. There is a slight chance that another a moderator has already warned them for the same post or offense.
2: ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS include a quote or link to the offending post and state the violation. This is very important because members can and will view their warn logs.
3: ALWAYS notify the member with a private message. Copy and paste what you've entered into the warn log, that's what I do.
4: If an offense is very minor, give a verbal warning and a small fine. These small offenses still have to be logged so they can add up.
5: Don't be afraid to warn people. The idea of the system is that the 20%s will add up and their actions will have consequences. Playing the bad guy isn't always easy, but if cleaning out the crap means being a hardass, so be it.
6: Don't be afraid to warn someone based on who they are. Some people may think their seniority, mapping skill, penis size, or whatever may place them above the rules. This is not so.
7: When suspending someone, add "Suspended for X days" to the warn log. It isn't put in automatically.
8: You may warn multiple times (more than 20%) for very serious offenses.
9: Don't be afraid to give out suspensions for multiple offenses of the same type or serious offenses.
10: When someone hits 100%, please notify an administrator. We will handle the warn reset and dish out punishment based on the nature and number of offenses.
11: If more serious action needs to be taken regarding a member, PM an administrator.

SPAMMING
1: When warning a spammer, fine them minerals and posts - those are the benefits of spamming.
2: If someone continuously posts crap in a forum, tell me about it. I can levi a ban on their posting in that forum.

FLAMING
1: If you're diving into a flame war, warn both sides of the argument regardless of who started it. The "he started it" argument is a childish way to avoid taking responsibility for your actions.
2: Invisible posts and include links to posts when warning someone for specific posts. Evidence helps. smile.gif

MISC
1: Double Accounts - If you suspect double accounts, tell Global Moderators or Administrators. If you have the permissions, run IP checks. When in doubt, post a topic here or PM Moose.
2: If a spam or flame topic can be salvaged and saved, save it instead of locking it!
3: After penalizing someone for a post violation, get rid of the post! This can be done via editing, deletion, or invisibilization, but it has to be done to avoid double warns.
4: If someone is causing trouble in a certain forum, tell me so that I can ban them from the forum.

7. After any rule breaking, always go into them members profile and edit the Admin Members Notes to include the date, punishment and crime.

I didn't realise this was here...

I just made an entire code of conduct for us to follow - give me your opinions on it if possible.

CheeZe disagrees with:

Posting Unacceptable Content
Action to be taken:

Posting of adult content: 20% Warn Raise. Deletion of content at mod’s discretion.

Posting of hardcore/extreme adult content (e.g. goatse, tubgirl): 20% Warn Raise, 24 Hour Suspension.

Adult content should be instant suspension of at least 1 day.

"Hardcore/Extreme-ties" should be instant deletion of account as well as ip-ban.

Yeah, I thought there might be some problems with that one. I'm more worried about illegal activities than an exposed breast or something. I'm European though, and we're more relaxed about that kind of thing. tongue.gif

The site is primarily American though, so maybe adult content should be punished more harshly.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CheeZe on 2006-03-05 at 19:17:13
I don't think it matters what country you're from. I doubt your parents would want you to be exposed to ultragaypornography/othercrapsimilartoit.

This is a Teen site. Not a ADULTS ONLY LOL OTHERWISE, IT'S ILLEGAL type of site. Kids under 13 come here all the time; I don't think we should allow anything like that on the boards.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-03-05 at 19:21:47
I don't think my parents would care seeing as I'm 18, but I see your point.

What would you consider pornography/adult content?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by BeeR_KeG on 2006-03-05 at 19:23:58
This is what I do:

Illegal content - Inmediate suspension of the account, invisible post and ask for the account to be deleted.

Porn - 14 Day suspension, +40% warn, set the post to invisible for it to be used as evidence, if there are images, change them to link. Depending on the porn, I will or will not request the account to be deleted, but I will inform it nonetheless. An exposed nipple isn't much to look as opposed to hardcore.

pornography: creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire

This makes me wonder if the person recieving the PM was doing so themselves.

You can always simply advise him to block, but you probably knew that already.

There's no need to moderate PMs. Can't you ignore PMs sent by a member?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2006-03-06 at 14:15:23
You certainly can. This is why I tell members to fight in PM if they have to.

That should be something people never do, it's pathetic that we should even have to take it into consideration.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Rantent on 2006-03-22 at 21:15:45
But people still do it.

I'd say that if it's something like the Devilen/Ultimo thing. (or someone like that.) Where they imitate everything about the other person, and the person being imitated does not agree with what they are doing, then it should be a warn. Because it sounds like they are just playing around.

But if its something like the nuclear rabbit thing... I'd say, ban the account? Or at least check it for a double account. Unless they have some reason to have it or something. (Of course this wouldn't apply to members who's names are like "DBZrox" or some general term like that)

I'm talking about using the same avatar and signature and custom user title so that people need to look at the name to tell the difference.

Someone is running around with a swastika and a nazi banner (and yes, this time it actually says NAZI). Nothing like making fun of 6 million people that died, eh?

Technically merely being a Nazi does not make you anti-Semetic, and freedom speech allows the former.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Revelade on 2006-03-26 at 16:01:01
Erm, that's the definition of being a Nazi, the belief that one race, the Aryan race is superior, which actually DOES mean that all other races, including Jews are inferior.

Freedom of speech? I'm sorry, but do you realize these are internet forums here? That's like saying you can dress like Osama in school because of freedom of speech. Forums are private property, which means you have to obey certain rules of the owner, in this case, IP.

What you are saying fred, is that if I were to walk into Israel with full Nazi gear on, that everyone would smile, birds would sing and there would be rainbows.

And don't give me, "it's a symbol of good luck" crap either. The word Nazi IS written on the banner.

This isn't Isreal. This is mostly American.

Moose, you need to add to the rules topic "Crime and Punishment" that opening a moderator locked topic = warn. We're kinda stuck with v4 for a bit tongue.gif

Wikipedia has an entry on Nazism if we need some reference.

My personal opinion is that a political party doesn't have to stand for a complete set of ideology, it's only fair.

And the one of the key elements of Nazism is racism, ESPECIALLY anti-semetism.

I'm not sure what you were trying to prove here.

If you want a political party, you would put SOCIALIST, not Nazism. This guys a walking Hitler billboard. Take his nazi banner off. And the guy is Zombie.

Seeing as the guy is proudly proclaiming himself to be a Nazi - I think he should be told to take his Nazi references down.

He seems to have a Hitler fetish. I close down a thread about Hitler because it turned into a circular flame war, and he goes and makes another!

I think he just wants attention. Trolling.
If everyone just ignored it... the problem would go away.
