Ok this is really out there but I've thought about it frequently. I've though of making a minimap fighting game using a bunch of units to make up a stick figure and locations surrounding it. There would be a barracks that your screen is centered on and you train units to do attacks.

Now say you chose to punch (Train a Marine). P3 (P1's stick figure guy) would move accordingly and where the punch connects it would make a different unit at the end of the arm instead of what made up the stick figure. Now, the map centers a location on that different unit and if p4 (p2's guy) brought the unit that makes up his guy to that location then damage would be done and his attack would be stopped. Another type of unit could be used for blocking, where less damage is taken and it uses up energy.

It would take a lot of locatiosn but there always ways around that. It might also start out like rock paper scissors with reflex, but you gotta start somewhere.
It's sort of a ridiculous concept but if people liked on it and improved it, it could become a whole new type of map. After all, people thought cars were a bad idea and look at them now biggrin.gif

the ideas been thought of many times in the past. generally, it can be concluded that it would require way too many locations and triggers, while still having many bugs.

if you want to make a minimap game, try making a 2-d screen shooter. the games where you have one fixed viewpoint(usually containing buildings). units would pop out from their cover(trenches, bunkers, windows) and then you'd have to shoot them or else they'd shoot you.

i thought of it a long time ago, but i couldn't figure out what sorta spell would allow me to shoot instantenously. i've since figured it out, but i'm much too lazy to make the map.

ADDITION:
ps the spell you'd want to use is recall. scanner sweep would be much better, but you can't detect it.

Heh. Theres lots of ways around using up many locations, like say, make a scourge on each part of the centered leg, then have them move to the top right and use a player switch center trigger, while moving the uints underneath. A full leg motion using 2 locations.
About the triggers. Well, it'd take a lot less than it sounds like if theres a set action for when you hit. It'd start out low quality, but I'd find ways to make it look more realistic.
And about the bugs, yeah... there would be a lot. But you never know if you dont try =/
By the way bilal, this is concepts, not map showcase O.o
The whole map is still just an idea =/

Well, if you have the time and the ability to keep up where each and every 255 locations will be constantly, go for it, otherwise I'd go pretty slow with this project..

The biggest problem isn't triggers, its the minimap refresh rate, which happens to be pretty slow for any animation.

good point rantent, forgot about that.

IRT to elite

its not as easy as you think, you're gonna be using several units to form the limb. so each sub-limb(the individual units) is going to move as one unit, but varying distances. cause it will move in a circular format.

i know i'm not being very clear, can't really explain this without a diagram.

also, your scourge method will lead to dismembered limbs. since the top will be moving the exact same distance as the bottom of the leg.
