Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Want BLACK player color in 1.4? Read how, here...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by krille on 2006-08-10 at 17:55:38
Hi!

UPDATE: I did some further testing and Dec: 47 / Hex: 2F gives solid blacks on both main map and mini-map for any players (1-8) on any tileset (in patch 1.4)!

Original post:
I tried this on Winter / Ice terrain only (it's what I needed), but the player color number you need for perfect black on main map and mini map seems to be:
Dec: 47
Hex: 2F
No flashing, no anything.

If you appreciate flashing mini-map colors, try this one instead:
Dec: 29
Hex: 1D

There are a bunch of other blacks with either an odd main map or mini-map color (such as Dec: 37 / Hex: 25 resulting in perfect black main map but orange mini-map color).

Just tried a bunch of colors in SCMDraft and StarForge till i found this one.

Hope it helps, good luck! smile.gif

Why are you listing the corresponding hex numbers?

Yea, I don't get it either. ermm.gif

In case anyone (you?) would need it for their (your?) purposes. Not sure why else? confused.gif

Or did you have anything else in mind?

Edit: In case you didn't know, computers work in binary and hex is the human standard of choice for viewing binary numbers, as it's probably the easiest representation of binary numbers for human comprehention (one hex 'character' is equivalent of four binary 'characters'). For this reason, it's very common inside computer software. Hope that explains it! smile.gif

I don't know what possible use the hex number would serve. Also, it's a trivial task to convert a decimal number to hex.

Also, why is this in Map Making Assistance?

Because I made a search for this. Lots of people asked this question, just like me, but none got an answer. So instead of asking it, I found out myself and now I posted it to. Sorry, if it's the wrong section, as it was my first post. blushing.gif

As for how trivial converting to hex is, the same argument could be said about hex -> dec and why I posted the dec values. As this is all computing, and all data is stored in binary (even string are!), I'd say hex is the more logical choice to submit out of the two. But I also know many map editors convert dec numbers to hex automatically, out of user-control. The solution is simple: Post both! Thusly I simply chose to submit both for your convenience, I'm sorry if it's seen as a problem of any kind. cry.gif

None of the map editors use hex values.

Well, I can't say for sure I really know of every map editor out there, but in the .SCX files (MPQ-archive, CHK-file) a byte is used and it's hexadecimal. And, really, what's the point of this discussion anyway? I try to streamline the work for others and you guys keep jumping me for it, I'm sorry but I really don't see why?

Btw, thanks for the move (I guess?)! I just hope the ones who're looking for the black player color # in 1.4 (that is, those who "need" this thread, the target audience) will find it here...

What I'd appreciate the most, however, is if you updated your player color tutorial / reference guide in the tutorials section, with this information. There it'd be easily accessible for everyone!

No, just type 47 for the player color. (for the Ice World tileset)

29 causes the player's units to "glow" on the minimap/leaderboard. 47 makes it solid black. That's about the only difference.

The information has at least a tiny little itty bitty amount of merit to it.

So 47 makes the units black on all tilesets and does not flash on the minimap? Please say yes, because I need to update some of the maps available here so they'll be compatible with the new patch.

Not all tilesets, Ice World.

Wow! Ignorance is bliss, huh? At least try to stay update if you're gonna be impolite. Did you ever test what you're saying for 1.4 yourself? Then you should know, as I wrote in the very first port and Kenoli later also stated, 29 gives solid black ONLY on main map, while mini-map is flashing black/grey. It DEFINITELY didn't suit my needs with annoying flashes on the minimap, so I went looking further... came up with 47. Which I've now tested with ALL terrain types/tilesets on 1.4 and it works! That is: Ash World, Badlands, Space Platform, Installation, Jungle World, Desert World, Ice World, Twilight World.

Yes.

Incorrect. It works for ALL tilesets. You just automatically assumed otherwise, since I'd only tested it for Ice World at the time of my first post. Going to update first post with this new information now.

Like I said: Yes, Dec = 47 / Hex = 2F gives solid blacks on both main map and mini-map and works for ALL tilesets! (Not just Ice World as Kenoli claims.)

Actually 47 isnt always black on the mini map after testing colors for a while it was black sometimes and invisible some other times, such as the color 30 on jungle which is orange on units but the mini map color is diferent everygame from white to darkpurple to black.

I reiterate information that you posted, and you try to prove me wrong over it?
No thanks.

PS. Player color 47 isn't completely black on any tileset.
