Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Weapon Units

I dont know if this is a "new" concept but I was thinking about instead of using 1 unit to take damage and give damage we can use onw to give and one to take. But also have weapon styles (Blunt,Blade,Range) for instance a Defiler is the one that takes the damage while a zealot(Blade)atks the unit. And then you can switch weapon and make a zergling atk(Blunt) etc. But whenever the Attacker gets too far away from the defender the attacker unit moves back to the defender.

Umm yea this isn't very new. It has already been taken a step further to create Virtual HP.

He's not talking about that.
I think I get what your saying. The player controls two units instead of one. One of which is invincible (the attacking one) and the other which is vulnerable but can't attack.

I made something like this a while back, but scrapped it. It could be done, but making the two units stick close together while maintaining a sense of control on the players part would be tricky.

Oh I see what he means now. It is still an old concept like Zeratul said.

You mean like this?

I think he means like you have an invincible civilian or something. Then you have a zergling which is the unit that attacks and takes damage. You could switch the zergling to a zealot, etc. if you wanted. If the unit gets out of range, it pulls it back in with triggers. I may be wrong though because the civilian might be the one to take in damage. Of couse you could just wall your civilian into a corner.

I used this concept in my Ocean Map Oceanic Depths I submitted to the monthly contest months ago, but yes, burrowed unit vHP is a much better concept.

Unoriginal has been done numerous time. And if you havent played an RPG that has used this style before you might want to upgrade starcraft. biggrin.gif
