SEN requires a lot more ram than I would have thought...
I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I definitely can't pay the extra costs for the server to run with twice as much ram...
I'm considering launching senv5 on sunday, way too early. Maybe that will help though.

Well, a buggy v5 is better than no SEN at all, if thats what you've gotta do.

can you actually delete alot of stuff that we dont need anymore like outdated downloads or alot of spam and crap from the forums?

I suggest deleting unused accounts. If that can help, of course.

How much are the extra costs? I donated another $20 today for the hell of it. I hope it helps. biggrin.gif

How much would it cost for the extra RAM?

Or we could delete yoshis account when he's not looking but then he'll bombard us with something huge.

I don't see the irony in that.

Well, I agree with Jammed. Smite any accounts that aren't used; they're just blobs of meat wasting space.

I say go for v5.

I think we need more info on the costs.

Why delete accounts? Does your .txt files sitting around on your hard drive use up your system resources? The extra ram costs an extra $24/month. Adding more ram isn't a solution, it's a band-aid.... I think.

Anyone that's seriously hardcore about linux (especially with apache and mysql added in), message me or something.

I think we should wait to merge to v5, keep v4.1 going for longer, wait until v5 is ready. Why is it costing so much more than before? Is there anything we could delete or something that would make it run with less RAM?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-10-21 at 12:11:09
It's a different host, so maybe this one is more expensive.. but if that's the case, we should move again. I say delete unneeded uploads, mainly images and stuff, not maps, avatars or signatures. And, of course SEN v5. I doubt it will be very buggy, certaintly usable, and I <3 the new look.

Why on earth are we on such an expensive host?

v5 just isn't ready..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Carlsagan43 on 2006-10-21 at 12:45:25
Why are we still on this cruddy host? There are way better hosts that crash much less often than this one.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-10-21 at 12:46:47
It may not be perfect, but a buggy V5 is better then a buggy v4 in any capacity. It also *might* solve the problem of RAM, and it will keep moral way up because everyone was waiting for V5.

I don't know how mySQL accesses tables, but it might load them into memory for a faster reference (having to look at the files is kinda slow), so deleting things *might* work. I'm not sure though.

The main problem here is the fact that SEN requires 512mb of ram on a VPS to run correctly so long as it continues to run IPB, in other words IPB sucks.

V5 is worse then v4. wink.gif . Glitchy DLDB, you can't access half the site, it's also crashy.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2006-10-21 at 14:31:37
clokr, not by much...

The VPS package I orginally got was quite cheap for the amount of ram we started off with. I'd be interested in knowing what blizzforums uses for hosting.

SENv4 = crappy ipb with even crappier mods tacked on to it.

Let's buy a stick of RAM and mail it to the server. tongue.gif

I'd have to wonder what they'd say if I suggested that...

But anyways, the current setup is failing as is...

Blizzforums uses Godaddy :/

Deleting account #1 would cause errors.

What's the difference in RAM usage between v4 and v5? If v5 is too buggy, set up a temporay page that consists of the shoutbox and one thread.
