Where do you stand on drinking alcohol? I was just wondering if you drink or your friends drink and what you think about it. Because I am not for it at all, I am probably the most against drinking in my school because I see what it does to people and I am big in sports and would never want to do that to my team or my performance. My friends think that I drink a lot because when my sister still was with me she drank a lot and I we were the house that always held the parties, I got drunk a few times but only when people left, my sister would tell her friends and now I have the reputation of the most drunk. All my friends expect me to go to these parties now that I have this reputatio, every answer has been no. I have been drunk only twice. I have gone to many parties picking up friends. One of my closest friends died on a snowmobile while he was intoxicated, I never want that to happen to anyone ever again. Alos from seeing my sister driving home drunk around 4 and 5 in the morning tells you a lot of what people look like, I dont want to look like this! I am mad that my friends think I drink. My best friend who I thought to be just like me asked me to go to a party with him. I was shocked because I always thought he was against drinking, news to me. I obviously declined him and I heard a lot of my other friends are going to this same party. Oh well, I almost wish for something to happen to someone this way they learn not too, because this is what it took for me to be this way. Any thoughts?

Hate long paragraphs.

I'm generally for it, even though I've never really tried to drink enough to make it count. Apparently all the restrictions on drinking are based on age, which is, like everything, idiotic. And I don't know why you become responsible for your actions at around 14, become an adult at 18, and can drink at 21. If you're responsible for your actions you should be considered an adult, and if you're an adult you should be able to drink liquors. Consistency.

I know a few 21+ people (not personally) who are considerably less mature and prepared then me or half the people in my school, and yet those people aren't restricted and those from our school are because of a generalization. Just like you can't say if someone is black he's a gangster, you can't say that someone who's under 21 isn't mature enough to drink. I hate these generalizations. We can't generalize based on race or sex but we can generalize based on age?

At the very least, the government should make something like the... drinking license. Just like every individual person has to take a small test to get a driving license, you should have to do the same thing for drinking. I'm not saying that if you pass the test and are 10 you should be able to drink, but if this is implemented and the minimum age to start drinking is lowered to about 16, I think things would be much better. And it would keep retards off the road with bottles in one hand and cell phones in the other.

They base it on age mostly because the older you are the more mature your brain is. Its not about how mature you are overall, your brain is always growing, it so called defenses are a lot stronger at 16 than 21 and even 21 they are still growing, they are thinking about pushing the age to 24 or more. And 21 year olds are normaly bigger than 16 year olds and their body can handle it more.

HYPOCRITE!!!(about the long paragraphs.)

My parents both drink a lot, although my mother is trying to stop... I know what it does just from my family, My mother acts a whole lot different when she drinks just a little alcohol. And personally, I don't think any alcohol tastes good to begin with, I'd rather drink a chocolate milk tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-03 at 22:48:44
See, Deathawk knows how I feel, The common community drinks just because of pure pressure and the thought of it being cool, well how cool is it to die? and its a lot of money for alcohol, go buy some soda.

I know what youmean when you talk about snowmobilers and drinking. I know several people who drink and drive snowmobiles and get away with it because there in the woods. I have a great step-uncle (my whole familys young) who got in a accident with a snowmobile and lost all his memory. Alchoholism is a scourge to society.

As for getting a bad name for being a drinker I have a slight problem with that too. My dad was a big party goer at his hometown along with his brothers. I've been to his hometown a few times and talked to a few people and got funny looks when I told them my last name(partially cause im geeky and share my dads last name). Though he started drinking late in highschool and was a church boy till sixteen. Drinking is part of the reason my family is so young.

As for lowering the drinking age I highly disagree. I would recommend raising the drinking age, but I don't think that would help anything but cost the government more money and would not work after all we know about prohibition and how well that worked (my grandfather was a moonshiner). Even though sixteen year olds have a bigger resistance to alchohol they still have a more developing brain to worry about and should not drink till they are out of high school because by then they might have the brains not to drink, and if they quit high school there only going to hold low wage jobs and could rot for all I care for they are being a scourge to society that brings bad names against the USA for being dumb and fat.

Hence my drinking license idea. Solves all problems. And I split my long paragraph into 3 shorter ones, Deathawk tongue.gif.

The drinking idea is kinda not needed, because what would they base it on. Set up and average 21 year old, give them 5 beers and test there mood then give a 16 year old 5 beers and see how close they are, if you act ok then you pass?

hmm tha age limit on drinking is just like racism. i mean my friends cousins uncles n bout everyone i no even i occasionally drink. 13 years old but sometimes it helps with problems its not to be cool or tha gay stuff parents come up with most of the time. its just a habit like a habit of breathing a habit of eating its like that i mean i guess sure im young but dont matter to me
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Zero.oO on 2006-11-04 at 00:09:35
Yes xszerg drinking can be a very family thing like wine for a diner even for younger people but its when familys take that excuse and start to be alchoholics so its better not to even drink that cup of wine for dinner knowing that it opens doors to that disease.

I dont drink, never have and never will. I dont drink because its not healthy, most people who do drink do stupid things, and I dont want to take the chance of getting addicted. Basicly im not risking it for something that gives nothing to life except risk, stupidity, addiction, and death.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-11-04 at 04:17:34
I drink less than my friends but I don't see any reason as to why I should stop. I've never had any problems related to drinking.

I've never been stupid enough to drive whilst drunk (my limit is one pint 30 minutes before driving), and I've never done anything stupid/dangerous.

I think that the limit of 21 on drinking in the US is a little extreme, especially as you can drive at 16 (right?). The problem with drinking isn't age - it's morons who don't know when to stop.

Personally, I'm against drinking. No science to it, it's all personal. My older brother and sister were killed by a drunk driver. My grandpa and my great aunt basically drank themselves to death by destroying their livers. A guy I know at film school basically signed away the creative control of his movie to some opportunistic students while he was in a drunken stupor. My boy's mom was really into drinking and doing drugs, and that caused a custody fight. My parents always told me to stay away from it (cuz most of that stuff obviously affected them too). I've never been very comfortable in party situations, and as a teenager, I was ashamed of that and would often lie about how much I've drank, or how many drugs I've done (which in truth is almost nothing). When I finally went out Loud N' Proud against drinking and drug use, my life got a lot easier and more fun. It's nice to no longer be ashamed of something that's not a flaw in the first place.

So in short, I'm against it and always will be.

Ya I think if I were in your case I would deffinately be against it too. It just kind of saddens me that my friend that I always thought was just like me and wouldnt drink asked me to go. He isnt one of the most popular kids in school. I am very popular not to brag or anything I just am friends with everybody. This kid lived near me and I became friends with him, if it werent for me he would be in the not so cool crowd, but since that he thinks that I drink I think he thiks that it is okay and when he asked me to go to the party last night, I just wicked pissed. I dont know if I really want to tell him that I dont or what not, he'll probly think I am just lying. Oh well.

Somtimes theres nothing you can do about drinkers, but one of my freinds at my school actually the whole crowd of people I hang out with just started drinking and theve been getting one of their parents to buy beer for them every other weekend. It pisses me off that they talk about it so openly and nothing happens to them. I got invited to drink but I did'nt they all got pissed at me for not coming.

I do drink, but I know my limit. I never do anything stupid while drunk (besides acting stupid tongue.gif ), like acting agressive, or something like that.

I'm not against alcohol, but I think that some people must be forbidden to drink (although I know that's impossible), because they become agressive, or do incredibly stupid things.

Everyone who says that drunks always cause problems, hence the license idea. And giving them a few pints of beer and see how they handle it would work. As well as a psychological test.

Well everyone thinks that they can stay smart when they are drinking, the saying "Drink Responsibly" is dumb because who can drink while staying responsible, when you drink you lose all contact with your brain, not all but you lose it. Staying responsible means youre brain is functional. You cant when your drinking, so I disagree with you Jamatul_101!

I am against drinking, I have never got drunk and I have never actually drank anything that made me feel tipsy. But the fact that people (especially teenagers) think that a party is not a party without the booze is making me sick, why can't people have fun without drinking?
I had this discussion with my friend, who is obviously drinking, and I think he drinks pretty much, and he feels that life simply isn't fun enough without the booze, or that it actually gets funnier with the booze. I don't understand that, when people make embarassing things that you don't think is fun at all and people live to tell the tale about it, and they think that's fun rather than not doing any embarassing things at all, or at least much less.

Maybe you think like me, maybe you don't, but why do some people chose to have fun and don't remember it rather than have fun and remember it afterwards?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2006-11-04 at 10:09:43
I'm mainly for drinking because it's forbidden to people based on age. I would never drink enough to get a hangover or something.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-04 at 10:20:42
Okay, well say you were a couple drinks from getting drunk, at that moment is your brain reacting enough to tell you to stop? I think the booze would kick in and would tell you that a couple more wouldnt hurt, thats how it is based on age. Doesnt matter, just takes longer for your brain to grow to fight things like that.

At home, you can drink after the age of 5. I am against drinking. My father also basically drank himself to death. They generalize it because it is easier to make laws rather then to create a "license" act on drinking. Also, even low doses can kill people with undeveloped or impaired/disabled/weakened body. I.E) Teenagers, Children, and the Old.
I've been drunk a few times. Believe me, you can't stop drinking until you faint if you start getting drunk. My older cousin was a college student, and he drank himself to death too. ( High consumption of alcohol ) If the decisions were up to me, I'd outlaw alcoholic beverages more than a cup a day. I'am not against one or two cups of beer. But generally, Alcoholic beverages are bad.

Seriously, it seems to me that you don't understand what being drunk means.

The more you drink, the less "contact you have with your brain", as you say. The main idea is not drink that much to loose the "contact" that stopped you from drinking over your limit. You can drink with responsibility.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lithium on 2006-11-04 at 11:12:15
I dont think it is so responsible when you drink excessive amounts so that you'd be in stupor.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mp)7-7 on 2006-11-04 at 11:21:21
You can be responsible about drinking but you cant frink responsibly. This is what I mean, once you drink, you start feeling the affects of alcohol, it slowly shuts down your brain, the part of your brain that makes your desicions it slowly tells you to drink more, responsible? no.
