What is your favorite type of music to listen to? I am not a big music person and dont know all the genres but this should cover most of them!

Mine is Country. Country used to be really slow and boring, years ago it was just music and had no lyrics. Now they have lyrics and have become much more interesting to me. I have been listening to Country for about 5 years now and I enjoy it. I can listen to pretty much anything except really heavy stuff and some rap.

I wish I could vote for more than one.

For me it's Heavy Metal and Techno... What an odd combination.

I really couldn't choose any one option. I really like rock, classical music, especially Beethoven, and instrumental hard-rock-techno-style music. I also like certain video-game music. Boy, it's an even weirder combination than SubFocus tongue.gif

I don't listen to music much at all. Out of that list I'd occasionally listen to techno and classical. I prefer the instrumental stuff; to me, a good enough soundtrack only gets worse when you add lyrics to it. Some of my favorite stuff is actually ripped off from computer games and movies, and I'm also interested in computer-generated music (mostly because of the software aspect, but it's also interesting to know you're the first person to have ever heard a particular piece).

Well I dont normally listen to much music at all either. I only listen to it on my computer when I am at home. Either playing Starcraft going on SEN, Talking on AIM, etc. I dont have an iPod because its a waist of money and my laptop can hold more. And how dumb is it to see someone walking down the hallway in the school with those annoying white earbuds in their ears. I just listen to it in my room alone.

I mostly listen to country because I like how the lyrics to about 99.9% of the songs tell a story. I cant think of one country song that doesnt tell a story. When you really listen to it, idk I just really enjoy them.

Hmm, it's missing baroque and romantic for starters..

Classical, Orchestra, Film Scores, Techno.

I hate lyrics, and how I feel is suprisingly close to Green_Meklar's tastes. About exactly the same... Weird tongue.gif

Those are subcategories of classical.. :/

Well, for the most basic definition of classical anyway.

It's highly insulting to see the entirety of musical history except an exceedingly small number of decades of Western music lumped into one giant category.

Classical music is that of the Classical Era, circa 1740-1820.

I see your point but try to think of it from their point of view. They don't understand and they wouldn't if you tried to explain. dry.gif

I like techno (Daft Punk) and rock (a montage of people). Rap annoys me because it's all about raping, shooting, and hos... tongue.gif

Baroque isn't a genre of music, its a period during which music was made. You can't classify by Baroque.

I chose Classic; I like some Concerto's, most Fugues, and all Rondeau's I've heard so far tongue.gif. Classic is just all that made before 1950 lumped together tongue.gif.

Personally, I listen to everything that I find sounds nice.
I don't really bar any genres except for most distasteful rap and coutnry, otherwise I'm pretty well-rounded.

However, what occupies the most space on my playlist is the broad general genre of Rock. Though I can't really say what denominations of Rock I listen to. I guess it's punk rock.

What's the difference between rap and hip hop? Except for the fact that they hurt my ears.

Baroque music is characterized by more emphasis on harmony (chorales were very baroque, and a specialty of Bach), contrasted with the lighter and more melodic Classical Era.

Ahem, its the entirety of one cultures music throughout that history. What should get on your nerves is how most of the other stuff produced outside of europe at these times goes under the classification of "World" music. tongue.gif

The Baroque period of music is also different than the Baroque art period. (The dates are similar, but not equal.) Both emphasized detail and structure.

What's the difference between rap and hip hop?
Hip hop tends to have more of a beat to it. Also it is more likely to include a female singer. Hip Hop also tends to focus more upon the chorus, and has more catchy jingles.

For the most part I enjoy listening, to either classical, (Mainly Piano concertos.) lyric-less jazz, (lyrics destroyed the movement for me.) hardcore rap, (Some of Jay Z's stuff, Method & Red are well known ones.) or a sort of alternative style that can best be described of as sounding like The Cat Empire's musical qualities mixed with Jonathan Coulton, which has thus far been unobtainable.
That and anything just plain goofy is genius. (Bonzo Dog band, TMBG, Some A Capella groups)

Any music from other cultures is hardly ever considered on such polls, so I'd say the entirety of music history is excluded or lumped into one category to be precise.
