Staredit Network -> Concepts -> Using Medkits in RPGs
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Wormer on 2007-01-15 at 08:45:44
I've just thought about using medkits or other healing items in RPGs and want to share my ideas with you guys. What if when using such an item to create a medic near the hero for a certain amount of time (you can call it a medkit or bandages or whatever you like). It could be created for player using healing, but it should be unmovable. When using all enemies could be constantly making allies to imitate the process of using the item. When the hero leaves the medic the healing cancels. What advantages may have such a method? At first using this you could have different kinds of medkits (like small medkit and large medkit and even more types) by placing medics with different amount of energy or on different amount of time. And the second is that it is just more realistic and imitates real process of using the item. The main problem with this is that you could heal only 'live' units...

What do you think of it?

sounds pretty good to me, could be very useful in a half-life map...even though it would only be organic units, most ppls heroes are usually going to be marines, hydras, zealots, ect. which can all be healed.

my only exception would be if someone was using vHP...so basically you can't do this system accompanied to vHP

Actually, vHP would work too, as long as 1 of the burrowed units have more than 1 health. If each life has 20 life, you could heal it up to twenty. It won't be just as useful, though.

By the way, with vHP you could make different kinds of medkits without using this...

That's one of the reasons it wouldn't de a good idea with vHP and medics.

I've played a map that used this sytem before, it worked well, since it is the best way to heal a little, bit, without EUD's to detect health.

I've actually seen many maps using it. Labyrinthos RPG by Drant, nad Legions by Kenoli and MindArchon (I think), both uses this system.

I did that a couple years back, let me see if I can find the map because I had it timed to a perfect 100hp heal...

ADDITION:
Alright heres that example map I made. You get healed for 99-101 hp everytime, it varies because the animation delay between when the medic spawns and when you get healed.
