Here's just a few paragraphs from the front page.
QUOTE
Six weeks ago, I began what has become a huge obsession of mine. It is called the “Wii Sports Experiment” (Read my original announcement of this from Early December ‘06). I outlined a 6 week game plan for myself, the idea being that I would continue ALL normal activity and eating habits, and simply add 30 minutes of Wii Sports to my day. For the past month and a half, I’ve stuck to these guidelines very strictly.

For those of you unfamiliar with “Wii Sports”, you can watch a video review of the game and find out what it’s all about, here

I’ve been meticulously keeping track of the following for the past 6 weeks:

- Weight
- BMI
- Calories burned per session/per game (via BioTrainer, thanks Nancy!)
- Body fat % (via a Digital Body Fat Caliper and a body fat scale)
- Heart Rate (at rest)
- Wii Fitness Age
- Additional Notes/Soreness

Before I get into to this, make sure to check out the original announcement of the experiment and read some of the comments, I took most of the suggestions and tips into consideration. I wanted to make sure that I gathered the most honest and accurate data I could.

Apparently, somebody made a workout routine of using the Wii, and it worked out pretty well for them. It'd be funny to see Wii's at gyms now, and stuff like that tongue.gif

Page won't load for me, but if the Wii was put into gyms... It'd be like a dream come true. tongue.gif

lame. You can lose more pounds by running and eating good food rather then move 2 controllers for the whole day. Cough*arthritis*cough.

But I think the reason why they did this is because of America's super obesity. Now I want to watch a 180lb 12 year old do this.

you guys are stupid... the guy did that to prove JUST BY PLAYING VIDEO GAMES you can lose 10 lbs! very cool

Don't call people stupid, that's kind of a flame.

Real smart of you.

I don't think they(which is actually a he) did it because of America's "Super" obesity. I think he was proving that the Wii provides some physical excersise.

I wish this wasn't discovered. Now people can use the excuse 'I'm working out' while playing video games. While that would be nice if the working out on a Wii was as effective as in a gym or just plain running, it isn't, so that's a bad excuse yet perfectly valid.

You can loose a lot of weight just by walking 45 minutes a day, no soda/beer, and no fast food. A lot more weight than 10 pounds.

Thats nice, but theres a possibility that it causes Osteoarthritis. Using your Wii like people do in the commercials puts prolonged pressure on your arms; one possible cause of Osteoarthritis is pressure on joints.

Pfft, there is a possibillity, but there is a possibillity that you could get a seizure or something from watching TV, but it's not stopping anybody =\

Obviously its america's super obeseness that lead to the creation of the wii weight loss plan. Since nintendo and the wii systems are mainly aimed to young children and most children are overweight nintendo is trying to make a technique for children to lose weight. But I stated before that running and other physical exercise is much better then this garbage.

Thats like saying playing tetris for 20 minutes is much better then crossword puzzles, reading a book and figuring out equations even though the puzzles and the books reduce Alzheimer's and strengthen brain activity.

Plus dont forget to mention that your eyes will be strained for looking at the screen to long.

You obviously don't live in America. True, there is a high obese rate among children, but most(which refers tos >51%) are not.

Thanks EGM
I don't know where you're going with that second part because of the atrocious grammar.

True, but what's your point?

My point is that Wii's weight loss plan is terrible in general. And you were right about one thing how I don't live in America, but when i went there to visit my cousins I remember going to this mall and I saw these 1m wide men and woman. Dont forget to mention that when you go to the pharmacy you will see some of these overweights that can't even walk and must use the aids of wheel chairs.

Last but not least when you brought up the man/teenager with the tetris gadget may I ask how will that replace all the tetris games everywhere? At the start I was talking about tetris vs. books and etc.

It's not a weight loss program, it's an experiment to see if playing the Wii gives any physical excersize. And tetris does stimulate brain activity, as all video games do. Video games require you to process and react to what is going on, unlike TV which is a passive experience. True, doing equations is better for your brain, but like playing video games, it gives you no excersize

So how is losing weight "terrible."
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2007-01-18 at 19:09:55
Actually, it's not that bad. 9 pounds in 6 weeks is pretty good. Thats a pound and a half a week. In a year, that'd be 78 pounds.

Too bad they dont have a game which MAKES you swing your arms even more and all that stuff. Imagine how much weight ud lose if there was a game right now like that.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dumbducky on 2007-01-19 at 15:54:16
In the dragon ball Z game, you replicate actually fighting. And it's only a matter of time until somebody does make a wieght loss program. Or a boxing game.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Gammon on 2007-01-19 at 16:01:30
The sad reality, is that the person who was using the Wii diet probably would have lost more weight by making himself get off the chair he played his games in.

Well you dont necessarily have to be sitting down. Like on Wii Sports, theres a boxing game which you obviously wouldnt be able to get far by sitting down. I bet you that if that was your first time playing the Wii without anyone watching youd probably swing your arms around like a fool. Which you probably wouldnt do with people watching u.
