Staredit Network -> Concepts -> 4 new type of bounds!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by payne on 2007-01-21 at 21:47:33
Here is 4 way to revolutionate the way of bounding (going from the poorest idea to the best) :

1st :
Random bound
You randomize switches at start, then, with a certain combinaison of cleared and opened switches, you make different explosion for the bounds (like thatm your bound doesn't become boring and makes that people won't do it the eyes closed).

2nd :
Attract bound
You have a normal bound game but at certain place (determinated randomly), there is the spell 'Recall' of the 'Protoss Arbiter' that is casted and you make a trigger to do that when the ling pass in it (or really near), it goes fool around...

3rd :
Invisible/Cloacked bound
When you finish a bound, the other one show you only 1 time each 10, the explosions... like that, you need to remember... PRETTY HARD!

4th :
CPU's bounder
You have an Infested Terran (fastest ground unit, as far as I know) on a lil' place that ain't more big than a 3x3 square... center = no action, left = makes the CPU's 'ling going left, right = makes the CPU's 'ling going right, etc... For the diagonals, I let you choose if they do the same as the center or as the left/right/up/down locations. Like that, it's not directly YOU that is doing the bound, but the CPU, that you control.

And a lil' idea : you know, in jail break games, some time, you need a 'ling to burrow and an other one to go on that burrowed one, then, the burrowed one unburrow and the one that was on it pass trough the wall? Think about that : one obstcle where the burrowed 'lings are CPU's one and they unburrow randomly... cool heh? tongue.gif

If you use at least one of these concepts/ideas, add me in credits/mission briefing.

Thanks!

Well some of these ideas are pretty basic. Like Idea #2, its kinda like the bound level, the sucking bound which makes you go in and kinda makes you do weird movements. I actually like the first idea. IMO thats the best out of all of the others.

Well... I've though they were all new and that they were gonna revolutionate the bounds map making... blink.gif

The first idea is not likely to work, simply because I don't see a feasible way to balance random explosions. Anything that random will likely be either too hard or too easy.

I think he's saying that in the beginning like say.. 3 switches randomize and depending on which combination you get you'll play 1 of 8 different bounds.

I like the first idea best, fourth one is okay, but the levels would have to be easier. Two and three seem lame to me.

It's funny, because every one of those ideas are not new in any way.

People have made levels like this before but not whole bounds

I don't agree with that statement. I think it can easily be done while not making it too eazy or too hard. However, the amount of triggers would be crazy.

Simply just create several sections. The first section would represent 'level 1' and you could generate 5-6 different 'setups' for that single location. Once the player beat that section they would move onto a new section ('level 2') with a totatlly different set of random triggers.

I really don't think it is possible to 'revolutionize' bound maps, using any of these ideas. IMHO one way to achieve that effect would be to allow 1 player to create the bounding challenge while in the game. However, I never really keep up with bounds maps so it may have been done before.

Lol, you havent been keeping up at all. Thats already been done like a long time ago. Like last year tongue.gif But the thing is that each player can make their own bound and play it along with other people.

Amen to that.

Weak ideas, and to say you would revolutionize bounding with it... and to ask for credit on a map you didn't even do anything for... man... the nerves :l

But yeah some1 should close this topic because these 4 new types of bound have already been made.

lol..wow..umm I liked the first Idea. Making a random bound and playing off of that..I agree that it could be either too hard or too easy. Some explosions might be set at the same spot and others might just create an explosion wall. But that can be fixed if it is done with the Random being timed.

Well... can someone list me all the bounds that utilised these 4 ideas? Ordered and with link of download please! Thread allowed!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HolySin on 2007-01-28 at 04:01:19
Idea One: Super Mario Adventure Bound has a level with random explosions.

Idea Two: Based off various sucking traps in many bounds, but just placed more inconveniently.

Idea Three: Phat Bound has a level where you memorize a maze

Idea Four: Spell Bound or Duplicate Bound

Those can be considered concepts, but now what's left of the topic can also be considered spam.
